RIIMPO318F – Conduct civil construction skid steer loader operations

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required operate a skid steer loader to load, haul and distribute materials. This unit applies to those working in site-based roles.

This unit alone does not provide sufficient skill to independently load and unload equipment. To perform this activity safely, personnel must either complete or be assisted by someone who has completed RIIHAN308F Load and Unload Plant or equivalent

Course outline

  • Planning and preparing for work.
  • Conducting prestart checks prior to commencing operations and shutdown procedures on completion of operations
  • Driving and operating the equipment to site conditions
  • Completion of operations to specification using at least two different material types
  • Selecting, fitting, testing, using and removing attachments on at least two occasions
  • Assisting with loading and unloading skid steer loader from float/trailer
  • Safely parking and securing equipment
  • Relocating the skid steer.
  • Maintenance and other housekeeping tasks.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • White Card.
  • Completed LLN assessment.
  • Fitness and agility to undertake tasks
  • Domestic student with appropriate study entitlements.

Mode of Delivery

Classroom based – internal

  • Theory facilitated in a classroom
  • Practical onsite


2 Days Each day consisting:


  • 15 minutes pre-course administration
  • 30-minute lunch break
  • 2 x 15-minute breaks
  • Full day training

Day 02

  • 30-minute lunch break
  • 2 x 15-minute breaks
  • Full day assessment (written and practical)


Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with

  • Statement of attainment for the unit RIIMPO318F Conduct civil construction skid steer loader operations.
  • Students will be given a wallet sized card reflecting the achievement.
  • Statement of Training or Notice of Satisfactory Assessment (NSA)


  • We supply all equipment necessary for the training

Trainees must provide

  • Lunch
  • Appropriate clothing and safety boots
  • Transportation
